Jorge Luis Avalo Ferrás
My name is Jorge Luis Avalo Ferrás. I am happily married to Yayli Torres Pérez and thank God we have two children, Geidy Ester and Josué. Our family lives in Holguín Cuba.
We have been serving the Lord as full-time pastors for more than 10 years. It is our honour to serve God. We are part time chaplains and also teach different courses on pastoral leadership in our part of the country. I have been invited to preach to various congregations in the city and give workshops to pastors and evangelistic leaders and crusades. I also preach once a week on Radio Vida 1130 transmitted from Nashville, Tennessee.
Our family has had some struggles recently. After the pregnancy of little Joshua two years ago, my wife began suffering with thyroid issues. She has had several tests and analyses, and thanks to God and the prayers of many, she has tested negative for cancer. But the thyroid is now very large. The assessment by several specialists all agree that it should be operated on. Due to the situation in Cuba, the surgeon who was supposed to operate on her has left the country permanently and we are looking for another surgeon. My wife is in a lot of pain, and every day it affects her more and more. In spite of the suffering, she has continued by my side in the work of the Lord.
We have started a new church in the city center, and continue to pastor in the Vista Alegre Neighborhood at the Getsemani Evangelical Church. We have seen spiritual growth and many new people attending. The church meets in the city center on Thursday evenings and Sundays at 8:00 a.m., and in Getsemani church on Wednesday afternoons and Sundays at 10:00 a.m. Working in two congregations has been a challenge, but we have seen the hand of God helping us. Thank God the church is increasing and growing. We have been developing relationships with many pastors from different denominations as well as visiting pastors and their families, and we support them in every way we can.
We are thankful to God, but also to the donors for the support received by CMRC. Your support and collaboration has been vital for us; without your financial support, we could not do everything we have done. With your support, we have been able to continue to serve the Lord in our community which has been a great blessing, allowing us to make history in our Cuban nation. You impel us to continue in the service of God and His work.
Our prayer and desire is the same as the Apostle John: “Beloved, I desire that you should prosper in all things, and that you should have health, even as your soul should prosper.” 3 John 1:2
